The negligence of a drunk manager burning paper sparked a massive fire.
© AKTU.cz, Jiri Forman Before 3 PM today, police patrols and several teams of firefighters—both professional and volunteer—had to head out to a fire located near the Rudná industrial area. Several thousand liters of diesel and motor oil were burning intensely there.
Firefighter units converged from the surrounding area. The fire was complicated by strong winds and thick smoke. The firefighters had to use breathing apparatus. They also faced challenges with water, which had to be replenished in a shuttle fashion.
The likely cause of the fire was the negligence of an intoxicated caretaker, whose blood alcohol level exceeded one per mille after the police required him to take a breath test when he admitted that he had been burning paper on the property.
Inside the metal garages, over two and a half thousand liters of diesel and hundreds of liters of motor oil were stored. This further complicated the firefighters' work, forcing them to use fire-fighting foam.
The property manager will likely be charged with starting the fire.
